Applied Outbreak Investigation (AOI) Training is a one-day, in-person course that teaches how to apply epidemiologic skills and methods to a foodborne outbreak investigation.  

The combination of lectures, discussion, and scenario work will help your team develop both knowledge and practical skills they can immediately apply to their work.

  • Explain the roles of epidemiology, laboratory, and environmental health teams
  • List key outbreak resources and tools
  • Explain how to document and report findings comprehensively
  • Apply effective communication strategies during outbreaks

 

Format & Time Commitment

This in-person training accommodates up to 30 participants and requires 6-7 hours to complete. At a minimum, we recommend two instructors with foodborne illness investigation expertise lead the session.

Required materials include internet access, projector, and computer, pens, paper, and calculators.

Prerequisites & Audience

This is a foundation foodborne disease outbreak training. It is designed for state and local public health staff who may work on foodborne outbreaks.
